In episode twelve of Stone Ocean, it’s raining poisonous dart frogs.

In episode eleven of Stone Ocean, the genre is now science-fiction horror as Jolyne and Weather Forecast have to defeat a zero gravity Stand while wearing space suits made of clouds before their new space-like environment kills them.

In episode ten of Stone Ocean, Jolyne has twenty minutes to get the disc to the Speedwagon Foundation. Luckily, Emperio and his ally Weather Forecast are here to help.

In episode nine of Stone Ocean, Ermes learns a valuable lesson about gambling — don’t do it unless you’re willing to lose everything.

In episode eight of Stone Ocean, the enemy Stand User is revealed, one new character joins Jolyne’s team, and one new character is incredibly suspicious. There’s also a lot more body horror than I thought there’d be.

In episode seven of Stone Ocean, when two inmates go missing, five women inmates –including Jolyne and Ermes — volunteer to search for them. There’s just one problem: if there are only supposed to be five of them, then why are there six inmates searching? One of the inmates is working for Pale Snake and Jolyne and Ermes have to uncover who before they’re killed.

Episode six of Stone Ocean is an Ermes’s episode. Ermes gets dropped head-first in the wild world of Stands when she accidentally gets involved with a suicidal janitor unaware of that his Stand is inflicting his self-harm onto others. Now, she needs to keep the man alive long enough to steal his Stand so he can stop hurting others.

In episode five of Stone Ocean, harsh reality sets in for Jolyne and Jotaro as it is revealed that there are two Stand Users in the prison working together to take down the Joestar bloodline. Much like everything else in this anime, nothing is as it seems and there are twists around every corner.

Arcane is a tightly-woven emotional narrative told through indescribable visuals that perfectly demonstrate the limitless potential of animation. And that is why I have had the hardest time trying to write about this show. If I had my way, I would go through the entire series frame by frame. I would point out all of the little animation details in the background and the foreground, all of the parallels, all of the foreshadowing, every unique movement a character makes, and countless more than can never be properly conveyed through the written word alone. As I’ve confined myself to this medium, the best I can do is talk this show up as much as possible.
Continue readingIn episode four of Stone Ocean, the mysterious baseball kid gives Jolyne and Jotaro a way out of the prison at the risk of drawing Johngali A.’s murderous attention. Jolyne throws this chance away to help the boy and everything goes the way of a bad drug trip from there.
